Community Guidelines

OurWay works because campus feels like a place you belong. These are the rules that keep it that way.

Last updated:

These rules apply to profiles, club submissions, posts, events, messages and attachments. They apply to students, external affiliates, club officers and administrators. Club rules can add requirements but cannot permit conduct prohibited here.

What we expect

  • Treat people like classmates. No harassment, bullying, or targeted abuse. Do not stalk someone, organize a pile-on, pressure someone after they decline contact or retaliate against someone for reporting a concern.
  • No hate speech. Content attacking people over race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation is not allowed.
  • No threats or violence. Do not encourage violence, dangerous hazing, suicide or self-harm. People may seek support without posting graphic content or instructions for harm.
  • No sexual content. Pornography, sexual solicitation and explicit text or imagery are prohibited. Child sexual abuse material, grooming and sexual exploitation of minors are strictly prohibited, including generated or manipulated depictions. Never upload or forward abusive imagery as evidence; report the existing content.
  • No spam. Do not flood chats, mass-message students, or post repetitive promotional content.
  • Be who you say you are. Do not impersonate another student, a club, or a university.
  • Represent clubs honestly. Do not submit a club you have no connection to, and do not claim official recognition a club does not have.
  • Protect privacy. Do not expose private contact details, account credentials or sensitive information without permission. Do not share intimate images without consent, including altered or generated images.
  • No scams or illegal activity. Do not steal credentials, distribute malware, run deceptive fundraisers or misuse another person's intellectual property.
  • Respect safety decisions. Do not evade blocks or restrictions with other accounts, ask others to contact someone who blocked you, or repost removed content to continue abuse. Do not submit knowingly false or coordinated abusive reports.

What happens when something goes wrong

These are the tools that actually exist in OurWay today:

  • Report content or a person. Use Report on a profile, club, post or event. For a message, open its actions menu — press and hold it on a phone — and choose Report. Your report goes privately to platform administrators; the person you reported is not told who reported them. Select the closest reason or Other and describe the concern briefly. Include only relevant information. Your report is not anonymous to the administrators reviewing it.
  • Block someone. Blocking stops direct messages between you and that person. You can block from their profile, and manage blocked people from Connections. Blocking does not erase earlier messages or remove every shared club conversation; report harmful content in shared spaces too.
  • Club officers moderate their own chat. An officer with moderation permission can remove a message — participants then see a neutral placeholder rather than the text — restore it, pin it, or stop a member from posting in that club chat for a period.
  • Administrators review reports and can remove content or suspend clubs. Reporting does not automatically remove content or guarantee a particular outcome.

Consequences

Depending on what happened, content may be removed, a member may lose the ability to post in a club chat, or a club may be suspended. Administrators consider severity, context and patterns of repeated abuse or evasion. Serious safety issues are handled directly by platform administrators. Reports and moderation records may remain after account deletion for safety review, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

If you believe a decision was mistaken, use Support to explain the decision and relevant context. Do not target the reporter or repost harmful material while seeking review.

If you are in danger

OurWay is not an emergency service and is not monitored around the clock. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or your campus safety office.
